Spring Sunday

It kind of felt like the first real day of spring this weekend and we spend a lot of time outside playing in the garden, eating icecream and just having a good time

 

Waldspielplatz & Innerste

 After  lunch we went via car to Lautenthal to visit the Waldspielplatz (playground in the woods). First we hiked a little bit in the Harz Mountains and then we spend a lot of time playing. It was a lot of fun and time just flew by. 

I then decided to stop at the Innerste Dam . After a walk to the other side, we decided to cool down and put our feet in the water. I told the kids to undress down to their underwear, which was a good thing, as they ended up sitting a playing in the water. We had a lot of fun all afternoon. Next time, I put some towels in the car just in case.

When we walked back to the car we found a mobile phone with debit card and ID. I ended up calling one number int he phone to rely the message that I found the phone and they got in touch with the owner to let them know we found the phone and wanted to return it. The owner called me when we were on our way home and we arranged for her to pick up the phone at my address. 

An old knights castle - or what was left from it

Today we decided on a trip to the Harz Mountains. About an hours drive away from where we live I came across an old castle ruin with a nice view over the Harz Mountains. Since the kids are very mich into knights at the moment, I figured it would be a nice outing.

After an hours drive we parked at the bottom of the hill. It took us 45 minutes to hike up the hill and the kids were off exploring what was left of the castle. We were able to go up and old tower and have an amazing view over the Harz Mountains. We had a picknic inside the castle ruins before making our way back. We spend a total of 3-3,5 hours in total at the ruin (inkluding hking up there). It was a cool trip and we can only recommend it.

Weltwald

Today, coincedently on mothers day, was the first nice and beautifiul day of spring, with temepratures rising in the 20s. Very spontaneously we decided to spend the afternoon in the Harz Mountains and drove to Bad Grund to hike in the Weltwald. The Weltwald (world forst) has trees from all over the world and is a beautiful place to hike. The blue skies, sun and beautiful views made this a wonderful day out. The boys had a great time too exploring and climing. Our motto for this summer is: summer is too short, with that in mind we want to spend more time exploring and going out and about during the weekends. We are off to a good start.

Even as an introvert, someone who gets drained of energy when in the company of too many people for to long, I am tired of Corona and all the restictions that come with it. Add to it the bad weather we had lately, coupled with having to work late, some cold & flu and I hadn't seen anyone in a while. Today we started our day early and got lot's done in the garden, to finally get some of the last bits and pieces ready for planting. The afternoon we went to see my friend Linda. Its was great to just catch up and watch our kids play. I am still saying it, my boys would make awesome big brothers. Ole had a bike that was still too big for him but I used that to teach both boys how to ride a bike without training wheels in a few minutes. Proud mama moment for sure. It was a day that I needed desperately for my soul.
