Today it was with a heavy and broken heart that I had to say good-bye to my best friend, my partner in crime for the past 14 years and the best dog a girl could have asked for.

Thank you for being my once in a life time dog Jessie. You will be missed and remembered every day 💕and we will see each other again at the rainbow-bridge 🌈.

Meet 'Flecki'

After a 20 month break I am owning rabbits again, well one rabbit, to be exact but this little beauty will be my breeding doe for next year. I had plans to get a doe in July/August which proved to be quite difficult, as it seemed like no one had s suitable doe available (doe, max 5-6 month, medium size, no giant). Two weeks ago I decided to put an ad at the door of my local animal food /garden shop (which is also the only shop in my village). I figured that people buying their rabbit food there might have one available. On Monday evening I got a call, while speaking to the woman it turns out that we have met and talked a few times at the store when I was there with the twins to drop of parcels. She had a suitable doe available and today I picked her out and up. She is a beauty and I am glad the boys will be able to grow up with some animals around. Next on the list is a suitable buck.

She is called Flecki for the time being, maybe I can come up with a better name sometime

Meet the cast - The babes

 

I can't believe that the babes (as I call them) are three weeks old today. It seems to me as if they been here forever already. They are growing up nicely and I can't get enough of watching them and their antics. Mia is a great mom and I am very pleased with how she handled motherhood. She will definitely stick around as my breeding doe for a while. The babes are still being fed by their mom but start nibbling on proper food too. I can't see yet which are gonna be boys and which are going to be girls but over the last few weeks their names established, so let me introduce you:

Blacky

They each have different personalty traits and as I said before I love to watch them. If I have a favorite out of all of them it probably is Blacky but I love all of them. I hope that at least one of them is a doe, that I can add to the breeding stock. 

I am considering supplementing the  breeding stock next year with a smaller breed for cross breeding, so am keeping me eyes open for a New Zealand White or Californian.

Meet the cast - Thumper

I'd like you to meet Thumper, a 1.5 year old buck that has joined the homestead today and will be my breeding buck (together with Muckel). Thumper came to me via an old friend of my dad's. When I was younger and me dad was still breeding rabbits, Boxer and me dad used to exchange breeding bucks or does every few years to keep the lines fresh. He wanted to give this one away as he had no room left and now he is with me.
Thumper has just joined us this morning and is still quite anxious and shy but I am sure he will settle in soon. He has beautiful markings don't you think?

Meet the cast - Muckel

Another new addition arrived at the homestead today. Muckel is still very young, just 2 month and 8 days old and will be the future breeding buck here at Tollerado homestead.
I love his redish color and that was a big big plus for him. I do seem to have it with red animals... my cat Jacky was red and white, and so are Lily and Jessie and now Muckel.

He is still quite shy but is settling in nicely. I think in a few days he will be as settled in as Mia.

Meet the cast - Mia

Mia is a 6 month old doe that joined the homestead on Friday (a day before my birthday). Mia is a giant cross, which means she will be rather large once she is fully grown (around 5 kilos). Once Mia is a few month older I will breed her and hopefully have a litter of young ones in the summer.

Mia has settled in nicely so far and is getting used to her new environment. She is friendly and not too scared, which is nice. I keep petting and talk to her whenever I am close by to get her used to me.

She is getting a mix out of greens, carrots and pellets and of course lot's and lot's of hay.

Now I am still looking for a buck to breed her too but am having a few options on that

Meet the Cast - Lily

From the moment that I took Jessie home, I longed for a second dog. Lily is her cousin and was born 13/05/2009. I actually picked out Lily's sister when she (Lily) climbed up on my lap and started sucking my fingers. I had a change of heart and picked her instead and I am glad I did.

Lily is the cheeky one, the energetic one, the one that can play ball 24x7. The one that prefers balls over dogs and can be a handful when other dogs are too submissive or to over excitable.

She is a handful, immature and overconfident little dog that I would not give up for all the money in the world

Meet the Cast - Jessie‏

Jessie was born on November 23rd 2007 and is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retirever. You can read more about her here where I post specifically about my dogs.

Jessie is an amazing dog in my eyes. She is just over 3 years old now and the most laid back dog you can probably meet. She has always been mature and laid back and I love that about her. She is very protective of what she considers her pack (with includes myself, several other dogs that she know, any child that she meets as well as homeless baby birds that fell out of the nest).

Jessie loves food and prefers human company over other dogs. In the park she will watch the other dogs play but rarely joins them, she prefers to do her own thing, go swimming and keep a watchful eye out for anything that could threaten the harmony of the pack. There are a handful of selected dogs that she will proper play with but I am able to count those on 1 hand.
